15th Century Blue Coimbra Portuguese Pitcher
$110.00
This handmade and hand-painted Ceramic Pitcher features a beautiful depiction of the fragrant gardenia flower, complemented by black antique embossed details. Each pitcher is uniquely painted by different artists, with every piece signed by the painter and marked with the year of the ceramic century, XVII. Originating from Coimbra, Portugal, this style of colorful pottery began in the 17th century, with artisans reproducing Portuguese hunting scenes, showcasing feathers and wild animals such as boars, deer, rabbits, and dogs. By the late 1600s, blue on a white background had become the favored color scheme for Coimbra pottery.
